The Barceloneta quarter and the seafront tour
This route highlights Barcelona’s essential relationship with the Mediterranean, focusing primarily on the Enlightenment-era urbanism of Barceloneta -a precursor to the Eixample Quarter and the industrial city. It also explores a contemporary connection with the sea, where the coastline is conceived as a vast agora for pedestrians and social life.
The itinerary moves between landmarks such as the Barcelona Medieval Shipyard -an austere and beautiful forest of arches, and an icon of the industrial revolution linked to the sea- and a wooden drawbridge designed for the 1992 Olympic Games. In between, numerous significant buildings appear, from rationalist and contemporary structures to iconic skyscrapers, without overlooking França Train Station, located just steps from the coast.
